As some of you already know, I always whine about firenova because I regard it as a weak spell for lvl 25. I think it would be useful to experiment its effects, so I have compared it with "sunburst" (lvl 3 sage skill). I have used a zenithar protector for my experiment, which has %45 defence. I used firenova and sunburst against the enemy, without any buff. I did it 10 times for a general idea. These are the damage results:
Firenova : Sunburst:
169------------- 92+40
93------------- 72+83
92------------- 86+80
187------------- 185+83
187------------- 183+84
94------------- 88+81
170-------------- 90+41
177------------- 171+81
181-------------- 90+82
174-------------- 90+84
As you can see, sunburst deals more damage than firenova with its dots.
Lets take a look at their side-effects:
Firenova dazes 1 round...recharges in 8 round
Sunburst Dots 2 round....recharges in 2 round
1 round daze is THAT beneficial as firenova is a lvl 25 skill ? I am not even mentioning its poor damage. 8 round recharge time for that weak spell is very long also.
The only advantage that firenova has is, it can hit every enemy regardless their position. But it is just not enough for a lvl 25 skill.
Seriously, I want to use my lvl 25 skill, because it must be powerful as that skill is the highest levelled skill obtainable at the moment.

I think the biggest problem of the Fire Nova skill's the pretty long recharge time.
If it just would take for 5 rounds then the whole skill coud be more useful.

And probably I can see it in more fight not just against the Alphadog

Well, remember that Sunburst received a magic stat boost last patch. Perhaps it's done in a hurry to catch up with patch deadline, where the intention was actually to eventually include magic stat in sage's damage calculation not only on sunburst. But, I can only speculate there.
But, back to your original concern, Fire Nova was already a limited usage spell unworthy of its level 25 status before the last patch. Just to reiterate what I've said on chat, their CD, daze effect, damage output are less to be desired. Maybe, if its CD doesn't have to copy the other classes lvl 25 skills... Maybe, if its damage output is higher... Maybe, if the mobs can be as dazed as players and unable to heal, buff, purge, use long range skills, and can only use basic attack...

Tbh, I feel less passionate about discussing this, knowing skill reshuffling is likely with (hopefully near) future higher cap. For this one, I'm taking wait and see approach (*hears "...
