The title speaks for itself. I suggest that a character can equip two types of weapons but only one is usable at any one time. I also suggest that each class can have a sort of ranged weapon that can be equipped as a secondary weapon (or primary weapon, it's the player's choice). During combat, a character will have the option to swap weapons at a cost of one turn. Suggestions for new weaponry are as follows:-

Crossbows - accuracy and health governed ranged weapon for Warriors;
Throwing Axes - strength governed damage dealing ranged weapon for Warriors;
Wands - magical weapon that requires a Mage to sacrifice some of his/her health to fire a magical projectile at a target;
Bows - accuracy and critical governed ranged weapon for Rouges;
Throwing Stars/ Throwing Knives - speed governed ranged weapon for Rouges. etc

Some of these are already in the game, represented by skills. So maybe some tinkering of the skill system would be needed too. But its only a suggestion. As it stands, Rouges are having a tough time now since some of their skills have become nearly useless after the combat system was changed. The inability to move after using a skill made the Speed stat also nearly useless. What is the use of an extra chance to act in a turn when u can't do anything?
